Weather and Crew Alerts

Weather & Crew Safety shows the conditions at each job site: heat index, wind, the next 12 hours, a 10-day forecast, radar, severe-weather warnings from the National Weather Service and tropical systems from the National Hurricane Center. Crew Alerts watch the thresholds you set every 15 minutes and tell the people on that site.

1.Check a site's conditions

  1. Open Weather and pick a job site. You can also search an address or use your current location.
  2. Current Conditions shows the temperature, what it feels like, the heat index and its band, humidity, wind and gusts, UV index, air quality, pressure and visibility.
  3. Next 12 Hours and the 10-Day Forecast follow. Severe Weather lists any active National Weather Service alerts for the location, and Tropical Cyclones shows active systems from the National Hurricane Center.
  4. The guidance is advisory. Follow your site safety plan and your competent person.

2.Read the radar

  1. Press Radar On, then Play Loop to animate the recent frames. When the provider delivers them, the loop continues into about 30 minutes of forecast.
  2. The radar is transparent where there is no precipitation, so a clear map means clear skies. It covers the United States.
  3. The ring around the site is the alert ring radius. Strike-by-strike lightning detection needs a licensed feed and is not switched on; the ring shows where such alerts would apply, and the Storm Potential panel shows the forecast risk.

3.Set crew alerts for a site (admin)

  1. Pick the site and scroll to Crew Alerts for This Job Site.
  2. Set the heat index threshold: the alert fires when the site crosses into that band.
  3. Turn on severe weather alerts, either for every National Weather Service alert or for the event types you pick.
  4. Choose who gets alerted: the whole job site or selected workers. Anyone with a login for that site, and anyone with no site who covers all of them, is always notified as well. Workers need a phone or email on their record to receive anything.
  5. Optionally tick Poll only during work hours, then press Save Alert Settings. Send test alert checks delivery; Run Checks Now runs the check immediately instead of waiting for the next quarter hour.

4.Know how alerts are delivered

  1. We check conditions every 15 minutes, so an alert can reach the crew up to 15 minutes after the weather service issues it.
  2. We deliver by text message or email, depending on which provider is set up on your instance. Text alerts are an add-on.
  3. If neither is set up, alerts are recorded in the Recent alerts log on the page and in the notification bell, and nobody is messaged.

Common questions

Does it cover sites outside the United States?
Conditions and forecasts work anywhere. Radar and severe-weather alerts come from United States services and are unavailable elsewhere.
Can it alert on lightning strikes?
Not today. Live strike alerts need a licensed detection feed that is not part of the product. Heat and severe-weather alerts are included, and the page shows storm potential from the forecast.
Why does the radar look blurry when I zoom in?
At close zoom the image is enlarged past the detail the radar provider publishes. Zoom out for a sharper picture.
