Working Without Signal

Migna is a web app that installs on a phone like an app and keeps working in a mechanical room or a trench where there is no signal, but only for specific actions. This page lists exactly what saves offline and what needs a connection, so nobody finds out the hard way.

1.Install it on a phone

  1. Open your instance's address in the phone's browser and sign in.
  2. On an iPhone, press Share and then Add to Home Screen. On Android, open the browser menu and choose Add to Home Screen or Install.
  3. Open it from the home screen. It runs full screen like an app.
  4. While you still have signal, open the pages you will need in the field, such as Report Incident and Observations. Pages you have opened once are stored on the phone.

2.Report with no signal

  1. Open Report Incident, or Report an Observation, or scan the hazard-reporting QR code.
  2. Fill in the form as usual, photos included, and press Save or Submit.
  3. A yellow bar appears: "You're offline — new reports are saved and will upload automatically", with the number of reports waiting.
  4. When the phone finds a connection the reports upload by themselves. You can also press Sync Now on the bar.
  5. Do not re-enter a report you have already saved. Each one carries its own key, so a report that is sent twice is recognised and not duplicated.

3.Know what saves offline

  1. A new incident report, including the photos and documents attached at the time and any corrective actions added on the form.
  2. A new safety observation from the app, including its photo and location.
  3. A hazard report from the QR code, including its photo and location.
  4. Readable without signal after the phone has loaded them once: the chemical lookup page, the policy list and policy text on the acknowledgment page, and any app page you have already opened. The figures on an app page will not refresh until you are back online.

4.Know what needs a connection

  1. Everything not listed above. In particular: editing an incident you have already saved, adding attachments to it, closing or reopening it.
  2. Audits, corrective actions, training records, permits, SDS entries, risk assessments, custom forms, inspections and exposure samples.
  3. Pre-task plans and crew sign-offs.
  4. Site sign-in and check-out, inductions and policy acknowledgments from the QR pages, and starting or ending an evacuation.
  5. Weather, the AI tools, exports, and signing in to the app itself.

Common questions

How long does a saved report wait?
Until the phone is back online and Migna is open, whether that is minutes or days. We retry when a connection returns and when you press Sync Now. After six failed attempts on a working connection it is dropped, and a report the server refuses because the data is invalid is shown as an error rather than saved.
What if I close the page before it uploads?
It stays saved on the phone. The next time you open Migna with signal, it uploads.
Does the queue work in a private or incognito window?
It may not. Those windows can discard stored data when they close. Use the normal browser or the installed app for field reporting.
Why is the list empty when I open it offline?
Lists come from the server each time, so with no signal a page shows what it last had or nothing. We never serve safety records from a cache, because a stale answer to "who is on site right now" is worse than no answer.
