SDS Library and Tier II Screening

Field tier and aboveIn the app: /sds

The SDS Library holds a safety data sheet for every chemical on site, searchable by product, manufacturer, CAS number, hazard or location, with the emergency information workers actually need pulled to the front. Quantities on site feed a Tier II screening aid for EPCRA reporting.

1.Add a safety data sheet

  1. Open SDS Library and press + Add SDS.
  2. Enter the product name (required), manufacturer, physical state (solid, liquid or gas), signal word (Danger, Warning or none) and the hazards, comma-separated.
  3. Fill in the emergency information shown to workers: first aid (SDS section 4), protection required (section 8) and exposure limits.
  4. Enter where it is stored or used, the job site, the quantity on site with its unit, and the specific gravity if the quantity is a volume. These are what the Tier II screening uses.
  5. Enter the revision date and attach the sheet as a PDF or image up to 4 MB, then save. We flag a revision date more than five years old.

2.Extract the composition with AI

  1. Save the SDS with its PDF attached, then reopen it.
  2. Press Extract from SDS. The hazardous components are read from the document with their CAS numbers and percentages.
  3. Review the components, correct anything wrong, and save. You can also press Add Component and enter them by hand.
  4. This needs the AI tools to be on for your company.

3.Post the chemical lookup QR code

  1. Press Print Chemical Lookup QR and pick the site.
  2. Post it where chemicals are stored and used. Anyone can scan it and search a product to see its hazards, first aid, protection required and exposure limits, and open the full sheet. No login is needed.
  3. The code uses the same site key as sign-in and induction. Regenerating that key on the Site Sign-In or Onboarding page retires this code too.

4.Screen your inventory for Tier II

  1. Press Tier II Report.
  2. We roll up each chemical's pounds on site from the quantities and compositions you entered and compare them with the reporting threshold: for an Extremely Hazardous Substance, the lower of 500 lb or its threshold planning quantity; for any other hazardous chemical, 10,000 lb.
  3. The page shows what is over the threshold, the percentage of threshold for everything else, and which sheets are missing a quantity or a composition.
  4. This is a screening aid, not a determination. The EHS list is a starter subset; verify against the current EPA List of Lists before filing.

5.Keep the library current

  1. Use the In use, Archived, With Document and With Quantity filters to find gaps.
  2. Press Check revision on a sheet that is flagged as more than five years old and replace it with the manufacturer's current one.
  3. Archive a sheet when the product is no longer on site. It stays on file and can be restored.

Common questions

Can workers read the sheets with no signal?
Yes, once their phone has loaded the chemical list from the QR page while it had signal. After that the hazards, first aid and any sheet they have opened stay readable in a plant room or a trench.
Can I hide the Tier II page from users?
Yes. An admin can hide it in Company Settings so only admins see it.
Is there a CSV export?
Yes. An admin can press Export CSV on the library page for every sheet's details and composition. The attached documents themselves are only in the full account export in Company Settings.
